Samuel Goldwyn Films Obtains Rights To Nancy
Christina Choe’s upcoming thriller Nancy has been picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films for distribution in North America.
Making its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the project is Choe’s first feature-length film. Prior to this, she directed such short subjects as United Nations of Hip Hop, The Queen, The Cross, and I Am John Wayne. Additionally, she has served as an editor on the TV series’ Declassified and Rebel Music.
Starring in the film is BAFTA-nominated The Long Walk to Finchley actress Andrea Riseborough. Although she got her start in theatre, Riseborough has transitioned to TV and film on both sides of the Atlantic, appearing in movies like Made in Dagenham, Birdman, and The Death of Stalin and shows like Doc Martin, Black Mirror, and Waco. In Nancy, she portrays a woman who comes to believe she was kidnapped as a child before meeting a couple whose child disappeared years before.
Variety shares the following information about the film and its cast:
Amy Nicholson praised Riseborough’s performance in her Variety review at Sundance: “It’s an apt role for Riseborough, a screen chimera with the eerie ability to shape-shift between awkward teenagers and grown women. Here, she’s both at once, an immature, exhausted-looking, vague blur who might grow old and die before she figures out who she truly is.”
The cast includes Steve Buscemi, J. Smith-Cameron, Ann Dowd, and John Leguizamo.
