Saw XI Moves Back a Year as Lionsgate Shifts Release Dates Around
Saw XI has come off the movie calendar for 2024 which means the movie won’t be released until September 26, 2025.
Lionsgate has changed the release date for Saw XI following the tremendous success of Saw X last fall. On top of this news, Lionsgate has also gotten the new reboot of The Crow far away from the new Bad Boys picture and has changed the release date of The Crow from June 7th to August 23rd. Meanwhile, a new Halle Berry picture, Never Let Go, has taken the spot Saw XI originally occupied on the release schedule calendar which was September 27th of this year.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die is still occupying the June 7th date which the remake of 1994’s The Crow just wisely vacated. That seems like a smart move because the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence box-office juggernaut will most likely clean up the weekend of June 7th. Never Let Go, the Berry film, seems like a good picture to put in Saw XI‘s original 2024 spot because Berry’s picture is a suspenseful movie that is well poised in a spot that served well last year for Saw X.
Let’s get back to Saw XI, though. It will, quite realistically, take time to make another hugely successful Saw movie. It took almost 20 years to get the kind of glowing reviews Saw X earned when considering that the first Saw movie opened all the way back in 2004. So, the delay of the 11th picture gives the filmmakers more time to come up with the kind of clever plot line which Saw pictures are known best for.
Saw X took in $53 million domestically and another $58 million overseas last September which suggested audiences were quite happy with the way the series reconstructed itself. Though viewers will have to wait til 2025 to see the next installment, it may also be helpful that audiences don’t get too many Saw movies too quickly. That’s how the franchise ended up burning out in the early decade of the 2000’s.
What the new August 23rd release date means for The Crow may be of great interest to fans of the original 1994 film. It may help that The Crow just received a release date in the heart of the summer movie season where it can thrive as a film-going experience, perhaps, all the way past Labor Day weekend.
As for those looking for more traps from the Saw films’ Jigsaw, September, 2025 is when audiences will get to see how that movie turns out. It may not be as good as Saw X, but Saw XI has time to work on its story line to ensure audiences turn up to buy tickets at the box-office like they did last year.
