Reginald Hudlin Signs On To Direct Shadowman

Valiant is getting ready to launch their cinematic universe as the goal to bring the characters to the big screen gets closer to reality as Reginald Hudlin has just signed to direct an adaptation of the supernatural character Shadowman, joining the likes of Bloodshot and Harbinger.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Valiant Entertainment has formed a new creative team to work on an adaptation of the supernatural series Shadowman. It looks like Salem showrunner Adam Simon has been picked to rewrite the screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski, while Marshall’s Reginald Hudlin has been attached to direct. Huldn has experience in writing comics, including some for Black Panther.

Even though Shadowman was to be developed in-house before being shopped around to other studios, Valiant also has a five-picture deal with Sony to develop Harbinger and Bloodshot, while an adaptation of Archie & Armstrong is being made by Terry Rossio and Ruben Fleischer.

If you aren’t familiar with Shadowman, the comics follow an African-American musician from New Orleans who gets infected by a spirit that gives him some powerful abilities. Becoming the latest incarnation of Shadowman, he becomes a mystical protector defending the Earth against demons. In his battles, he must go up against Master Darque and other dwellers of the netherworld known as the Deadside. Created by Jim Shooter and Steve Englehart, the series debuted in 1992 with many characters taking on the mantle with the main protagonist Jack Boniface being the popular incarnation.
