Shazam Looking to Hire David F. Sandberg as Director

It seems like some development has been made for Shazam as a report is indicating that Warner Bros. is looking towards hiring Lights Out’s David F. Sandberg to direct the film. It’s been a while since we heard anything about Shazam’s development, and this seems like a good start.

The Wrap reported that David F. Sandberg was in talks with New Line Cinema to helm the project, even though they haven’t said if any progress has been made. Sandberg hit the industry by storm with his feature debut Lights Out and will be directing the horror sequel Annabel 2. Sandberg is currently with New Line to develop a sequel for Lights Out, which was based on a short film he made five years ago. It will certainly be a turning point for this Swedish filmmaker’s career if he gets the position. He will be making a big jump form horror films to the superhero genre by taking on Shazam, which is based on a comic telling the story of a kid who turns into a superhero by uttering the words “Shazam!”

We still don’t know who will be playing the title character, but Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has already been cast to play Black Adam, who will have his own spin-off being developed by the studio. The film is being written by Earth to Echo’s Henry Gayden. For now this is just an early development, but if this does become reality, what do you think of the choice as director for Shazam?
