SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING (2017): Tom Holland on Spider-Man’s Ambitions

Tom Holland on Spider-Man’s Goals in Spider-Man: Homecoming

When Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out this summer, it will be the third time we see Spider-Man on screen. There will be some differences between Tom Holland’s version of the character and those that came before him, but one thing that sets him apart is he will be part of the MCU.

During an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Tom Holland talked about what makes his version different from the previous iterations:

I think the difference now is that Peter Parker finally has an all-time goal, and his goal is to become an Avenger. Everything he does, even though he’s doing it for the right reasons, is done so that one day he can become an Avenger and prove himself to Tony Stark. And I think we’ve never really seen Spider-Man with that kind of motivation before.

He does make a point as the web-slinger will be part of the larger Marvel franchise. Since he’s trying to become an Avenger like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, Peter Parker will have a lot to prove in order to be proven strong enough. At least we have Tony Stark to mentor the young kid and groom him into the superhero that he needs to be to New York City and possibly the world. The film seems to show his first steps on that journey. What are your thoughts on this?
