Han Solo Film Loses Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller

In what is sure to be shocking news, it’s just been revealed that the untitled Han Solo film has dropped Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as directors due to creative differences between them and Lucasfilms. With only a few weeks left to shoot, the studio is in need of a new director…

Despite the young Han Solo film already in production since February, it was just announced that directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller parted ways with the Star Wars project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilms, made the following statement regarding their departure:

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.

Lord and Miller added:

Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.

It’s unusual for a film to lose its director just as production is already halfway done, so this would be a shocking turn of events that’s for sure. Sources have been saying that there were only a couple of weeks left to shoot with reshoots scheduled for later during the summer. It will be interesting to see how the studio will deal with this as they search for a new director.
