The Flash will begin Production in April 2021
Andy Muschietti‘s The Flash (2022) will start film production in April of 2021. There is no word yet where the production will take place. One must also consider that the Covid-19 pandemic will still be raging across the globe when cameras begin rolling on the DC Comics superhero film.
My guess is that extreme safety measures will have to be taken to ensure the safety of cast and crew during the shoot e.g. everyone cloisters on set, no one in or out for the duration.
Cast and Crew
Ezra Miller will reprise his role as Barry Allen / The Flash. Ben Affleck will be returning as Bruce Wayne / Batman in the film. Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film.
Storyline
The reason the two Batmen, at different ages in their crime-fighting careers, can and will appear in the same film is because the film will deal with the multiverse, highlighted on the small screen in The CW‘s The Flash television series.
The story-line that the TV series utilized was the Flashpoint story-line from The Flash comic book series and The Flash film, in part or in whole, will use the same Flashpoint story-line as a plot element.
Why is Batman so important to this particular tale of The Flash (Ezra Miller)? Because of their similar pasts. Their pasts will be emphasized in The Flash film.
“The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” the director added. “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”
Only one Batman, Keaton’s older Batman, could have been in the film but Affleck’s Batman was needed to better facilitate the other in the film:
Muschietti said it wouldn’t work as well for [The Flash] to venture into the company of other Batmen without having Affleck as the starting point. “He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure,” the director said. “There’s a familiarity there.”
The Flash will be released in U.S. theaters through Warner Bros. on November 4, 2022.
