Timothée Chalamet Stirs Up the Best Actor Race with Win at SAG Awards for A COMPLETE UNKNOWN

Timothee Chalamet A Complete Unknown

Timothée Chalamet Wins Best Actor at SAG for Playing Bob Dylan

Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor at the SAG Awards and beat out front runner Adrien Brody for the award.

Timothée Chalamet’s name was called as Best Actor tonight at the SAG Awards for his tremendous work as Bob Dylan in the excellent biopic, A Complete Unknown. That leaves Adrien Brody pretty unlikely to take home his second Oscar for his heart-wrenching work in The Brutalist although Brody took home several prior awards for his terrific performance. That’s not to say Brody can’t win but there is usually a direct correspondence between the winner at SAG and the winner of the Academy Award in the acting categories.

To further complicate matters in regards to predicting the Oscars, Anora went home empty handed at SAG tonight. Conclave won the Best Cast Ensemble for a Motion Picture Award. Ralph Fiennes accepted the award on the cast’s behalf and was joined on stage by his wonderful co-stars Isabella Rossellini and John Lithgow.

Demi Moore has almost secured her Oscar win tonight with the SAG award for Best Actress for The Substance. It was going to happen that way but a few twists with the previous other award winners suggested that Mikey Madison could have won for Anora. That didn’t happen, though.

Kieran Culkin is a sure thing to win the Oscar. Culkin took Best Supporting Actor yet again at the SAG ceremony tonight for his gut-wrenching turn in A Real Pain. Zoe Saldana won Best Supporting Actress at SAG for her supporting turn in Emilia Pérez. That performance should also translate to Oscar gold as well. It seems that the controversy surrounding Emilia Pérez has died down and won’t affect Saldana at all.

Wicked: Part 1 and Anora both went home empty handed at SAG which suggests their Oscars outlook to be rather gloomy despite the fact that both films won previous precursor awards. The Academy Awards is usually influenced by SAG above all other awards shows. Still, anything can happen. In fact, Fernanda Torres wasn’t nominated tonight and could just win the Best Actress Oscar for her work in I’m Still Here. Last year, Lily Gladstone won the Best Actress honor at SAG for Killers of the Flower Moon, but the Oscar ultimately went to Emma Stone for Poor Things.

Sex doesn’t always sell with SAG as evidenced by their failure to reward Emma Stone’s work last year for her risque movie and their failure to award Mikey Madison this year for her risky role in Anora. A sexy role can help a performer win an Oscar, though. Sometimes. Look at what happened last year. That means the Best Actress race could still go one of three ways despite Moore’s win tonight in that very competitive Best Actress category. If Moore loses, it may well be Madison. Still, Torres is looming in the background to score the biggest possible upset of Oscar night that could possibly happen. Stay tuned for the Academy Awards where it will all make more sense!
