Ruben Fleischer Directing Venom Starring Tom Hardy

Sony Pictures is finally moving forward with their film based on Marvel character Venom as actor Tom Hardy has been cast to play the title role. Along with Hardy, Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer will be directing the film, which the studio revealed to be a Rated-R film.

Sony Pictures made the announcement on their Twitter feed that Oscar-nominated actor Tom Hardy has signed on to play Eddie Brock and his symbiote alter ego for the upcoming Venom. The film is being made as a solo feature and won’t be associated with the MCU as the studio is looking to launch their own cinematic universe with characters from the Spider-Man library. It’s unknown at this time if Tom Holland or an older actor would be appearing as Spider-Man in the new film.

With Hardy being a big fan of Venom, the studio made a huge win to cast him and expand the world of Spider-Man. He also has some good experience with comic book movies, with his take on Bane in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. Ruben Fleischer will be directing the film with a script written by Scott Rosenburg and Jeff Pinkner. Expect production to start this fall with a release date set for October 5th, 2018.

Venom was last played by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3. The actor didn’t get stellar reviews for the role, but here’s hoping that Hardy does well to portray the anti-hero on screen. What do you guys think of Tom Hardy as Venom?
