American Horror Story: Season 7 Trailer
Although much has been revealed about the next season of the horror anthology’s cast and imagery, little has really been explained about the plot aside from the fact that it will deal with last year’s election. Thus, there is a lot of potential for controversy, which is saying a lot considering the show’s proclivity for graphic violence and sexuality.
Opening on election night, the trailer shows Sarah Paulson’s character screaming “No!” in despair as it is announced that Donald Trump won. Well it’s certainly true that people reacted very strongly to Trump’s victory, seeing someone cry over it on-screen is more absurd than dramatic.
Interestingly, very little is revealed about the “cult” aspect of the story, with the horror elements of the trailer deriving largely from Paulson’s coulrophobia, or fear of clowns. In fact, Twisty from the show’s fourth season appears, suggesting that he will play more than a passing role. I don’t know how I feel about revisiting killer clowns after Freakshow, but I hope that Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy find a way to tie them, the cult elements, and the election overtones all together.
The series will feature, via Wikipedia, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Alison Pill, Colton Haynes, Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter, Lena Dunham, Frances Conroy, Mare Winningham, Emma Roberts, and Chaz Bono.
