If Beale Street Could Talk‘s plot synopsis: based on the novel by James Baldwin, “Newcomer Kiki Layne stars as a 19-year-old Harlem girl named “Tish” who falls in love with a 22-year-old local sculptor named “Fonny” (played by Stephan James, star of the Jesse Owens biopic “Race”). Their love is severely tested when Fonny is falsely accused of rape and sent to prison. After learning she is pregnant with Fonny’s child, Tish fights to get him out of prison, while relying on the support of her hard-working mother (played by Emmy-winner Regina King).”

If Beale Street Could Talk also stars Teyonah Parris, Michael Beach, Ed Skrein, Emily Rios, Pedro Pascal, Dave Franco, and Diego Luna.
