Box Office

Box Office / Weekend of May 30 – June 1

Everybody knows that sex sells, especially at the box office. Now it’s sold a syndicated television show on the big screen. Sex and the City: The Movie premiered in the Number One spot this weekend with $55 Million. The real quandary is how this film cost $65 Million (not including marketing costs) to make. I’m guessing New York filming permits and cast member salaries. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was second place this weekend with $46 Million for a total of $185 Million so far. Indy can thank all of the people that grew up on his films for the longevity of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in the top five. In my opinion, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull doesn’t deserve it at all. The second major premiere of the week was The Strangers, which opened in third place with $20.7 Million. In fourth place was Iron Man with $14 Million, bringing its total box office take to $276.6 Million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, What Happens in Vegas, Baby Mama, Speed Racer, Made of Honor and Forgetting Sarah Marshall rounded out the top ten respectively.
