DETENTION (2011) Movie Trailer: Joseph Kahn, Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook

Shanley Caswell, Detention

The Detention Movie Trailer has premiered. Joseph Kahn‘s Detention (2011) stars Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke, Aaron David Johnson, Walter Perez, Erica Shaffer, Parker Bagley, and Alison Woods. Detention (2011)’s plot synopsis: “a teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. It becomes a race against time to stop the killer and save the world – if only they can get out of detention. The Detention cuts through prom. Most of them don’t have dates anyway.”

One of the things that is hilarious about this movie trailer is that director Joseph Kahn makes fun of one of his previous films, Torque. The high school students actually seem to be high school student age in this horror comedy film and very Dawson’s Creek self aware. I usually do not like the balancing act between horror and comedy in these films – the only one that I remember doing it well was Scary Movie – but Detention might be the exception.
