Kelly Fremon Craig‘s The Edge of Seventeen (2016) red band movie trailer stars Hailee Steinfeld, Woody Harrelson, Kyra Sedgwick, Haley Lu Richardson, and Blake Jenner. The Edge of Seventeen‘s plot synopsis: “The Edge of Seventeen is a new coming-of-age movie in the vein of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club – an honest, candid, often hilarious look at what it’s like to grow up as a young woman in today’s modern world.

Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy (Hayden Szeto) gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.”

I laughed out loud a few times towards the end of this trailer. When a trailer can evoke an emotional reaction from the viewer, that is a good thing. Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson work off of each other really well.

The hilarious cell message moment reminded me of a similar type-writer message moment in Atonement.

Hailee Steinfeld’s jacket, which is perpetually on her back, is straight out of the late seventies, mid-eighties. Its retro wear yet she seems oblivious to that fact.

The Edge of Seventeen‘s also stars Hayden Szeto, Laine MacNeil, Katie Stuart, Daniel Bacon, Alexander Calvert, and Nesta Cooper.
