Till Death Review

Till Death (2021) Film Review, a movie directed by S.K. Dale, and starring Megan Fox, Eoin Macken, Callan Mulvey, Jack Roth, Aml Ameen, Stefani Rozhko, Lili Rich and Teodora Djuric.

In the heat of the summer comes an icy new nail-biting thriller directed by S.K. Dale. It’s called Till Death and stars Megan Fox in, perhaps, her most demanding role to date. With suspense and terror at every turn, expect Dale’s new film to keep audiences enthralled for its entire running time. It may just launch a whole new career for Megan Fox who seems to have all but disappeared from good movies after her roles in the Transformers pictures if you don’t count her foray into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films.

Megan Fox stars in the film as Emma who is married to a man named Mark (Eoin Macken). Emma is having an affair with Tom (Aml Ameen) who works at Mark’s law firm. Mark wants to make Emma happy on their wedding anniversary. The plot gets underway as Mark takes Emma to a hideaway home to rekindle the spark in their relationship. When Emma awakes the next day to find herself handcuffed to Mark, he commits suicide right in front of her. Emma would call the police but when she finally drags his body along the floor to a phone, the telephone is not working.

A film like Till Death has so many revelations in the story line throughout that giving some of them away seems OK as long as the major plot twists are not revealed. Reviewing a film like this is like walking on thin ice because one doesn’t want to give too much away and take away from the experience of seeing the film.

Emma finds herself dragging Mark’s body down the stairs looking for sharp objects to cut the handcuffs with to set herself free from him. When she opens the front door of the home, she is surrounded by snow outside. Mark had a plan and his suicide was just not something that happened on the spur of the moment. Tom shows up at the home and when he suggests that they tell the police another story other than what actually happened, Emma won’t have it. She wants to tell the truth and whatever plan Mark wanted to fulfill doesn’t matter to her. She just wants to move on.

Soon, the arrival of two suspicious men (Callan Mulvey and Jack Roth) to the home kicks the rest of the movie into gear and I certainly won’t discuss what happens from there. This movie reminded me of A Simple Plan due to the snowy setting and thrilling surprises the film unveils throughout. It’s nowhere near as perfect as that movie which had a much more complex plot. However, for what it is, Till Death is extremely well crafted and earns points for keeping the viewer wondering where the story is headed at every turn.

Fox’s Emma talks to herself occasionally as she tries to figure out what to do and her performance may the best she’s ever given. She makes us sympathize for her predicament as she drags Mark’s corpse all over trying to eventually set herself free of him once and for all. It’s a terrific, physically challenging performance. The ending scenes are full of icy symbolism which one can relate to the state of the cold marriage Emma and Mark had. There are many tricks up the movie’s sleeve and waiting for each one to be unleashed is a lot of fun. Mulvey and Roth are terrifically menacing as the movie’s villains with Macken playing a horrifically bad husband before eventually becoming just a corpse.

There are one too many scenes of Emma trying to start cars and some details of the plot get too complicated with too many twists thrown in willy nilly at the end. But, these are small complaints. Till Death is an icy new thriller which will keep audiences guessing. It’s definitely recommended.
