Plot Synopsis

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom‘s plot synopsis: “Produced by Denzel Washington, the Netflix original film stars Academy Award winner Viola Davis as legendary 1920s blues singer Ma Rainey. Set in Chicago, 1927, the story centers on the increasing tensions between Ma Rainey and her band members as they work to record a studio album under the watchful supervision of white management.

Boseman plays a gifted trumpeter whose burning ambition to make a name for himself becomes a source of contention between him and Ma Rainey.”
