Kenneth Lonergan‘s Manchester by the Sea (2016) movie trailer stars Michelle Williams, Casey Affleck, Kyle Chandler, Kara Hayward, and Gretchen Mol. Manchester by the Sea‘s plot synopsis: “After the death of his older brother Joe (Kyle Chandler), Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is shocked to learn that Joe has made him sole guardian of his nephew Patrick (Lucas Hedges). Taking leave of his job, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea to care for Patrick, a spirited 15-year-old, and is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife Randi (Michelle Williams) and the community where he was born and raised. Bonded by the man who held their family together, Lee and Patrick struggle to adjust to a world without him.”

The film has been getting good reviews on the film festival circuit. FilmBook writer Drew Stelter reviewed the film at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. He had this to say about the film:

one should not discount the performances of Affleck and Michelle Williams, who are at their career-bests after a chance encounter late in the film after having parted years earlier. It’s literally breathtaking, heartbreaking, and feels effortless. It so perfectly captures the conflicting compassion and haunting pain that can follow people for years, even a lifetime, following personal trauma.

Manchester by the Sea also stars Matthew Broderick, Lucas Hedges, Tate Donovan, Heather Burns, Josh Hamilton, Erica McDermott, Anna Baryshnikov, Missy Yager, Susan Pourfar, and Mark Burzenski.
