Reverie Trailer

NBC‘s Reverie (2018) TV show trailer stars Sarah Shahi, Dennis Haysbert, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kathryn Morris, and Jessica Lu. Reverie‘s plot synopsis: “This grounded new thriller follows Mara Kint (Sarah Shahi), a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior, who became a college professor after facing an unimaginable personal tragedy. But when she’s brought in to save ordinary people who have lost themselves in a highly advanced virtual-reality program in which you can literally live your dreams, she finds that in saving others, she may actually have discovered a way to save herself.”

The first thing that I thought of when I watched this trailer was the dream room in the second act of Inception. The scene  where Cobb discovers people that have become to enamored with the artificial dream world that they see the dream world as their reality. The waking world has become a distraction from that.

Reverie presents an interesting twist on that with the hostage negotiator angle but is that enough originality to pull this narrative out of the mundane? Only time, and the first three episodes, will tell.
