Sam Worthington in First Official Picture from James Cameron’s AVATAR

The first official picture from James Cameron‘s Avatar has premiered online and it is of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) next to a blue tank containing his avatar. From some reason this picture reminds me of The Abyss, another ambitious film directed by James Cameron. Avatar‘s synopsis: “In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.” From SlashFilm, “20th Century Fox will be holding a special preview of 15-minutes of Avatar on August 21st, in an event called Avatar Day.”  Avatar will be released in theater on December 18, 2009.
