Plot Synopsis

Slash/Back‘s plot synopsis: “Set in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, a sleepy hamlet nestled in the majestic mountains of Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean, director Nyla Innuksuk’s Slash/Back opens as the village wakes up to a typical summer day. No School, no cool boys (well… except one), and 24-hour sunlight. But for Maika and her ragtag friends, the usual summer is suddenly not in the cards when they discover an alien invasion threatening their hometown. These teenagers have been underestimated their whole lives but, using makeshift weapons and their horror movie knowledge, they show the aliens you don’t f*** with the girls from Pang.”

Review

FilmBook writer Thomas Duffy reviewed Slash/Back at the 2022 South by Southwest Film Festival and had this to say about the film:

Slash/Back has its flaws such as dialogue that isn’t always on point and some technical problems early on in terms of the way the aliens take over their host, but never mind. Only a nitpicker like me would complain about these things and the movie is highly energetic. This is an enjoyable rendering of the classic creature feature with a modern spin that puts the material way above the level which was expected for a lower budgeted picture like this one.

On Movie Trailers

“A trailer (also known as a preview or attraction video) is a commercial advertisement, originally for a feature film that is going to be exhibited in the future at a movie theater/cinema. It is a product of creative and technical work…Trailers consist of a series of selected shots from the film being advertised. Since the purpose of [this advertisement] is to attract an audience to the film, these excerpts are usually drawn from the most exciting, funny, or otherwise noteworthy parts of the film but in abbreviated form and usually without producing spoilers. For this purpose the scenes are not necessarily in the order in which they appear in the film. [This type of ad] has to achieve that in less than 2 minutes and 30 seconds, the maximum length allowed by the MPA. Each studio or distributor is allowed to exceed this time limit once a year, if they feel it is necessary for a particular film.”
