Turtles Set For A New York Shoot In April. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel is set to begin filming next month in New York City and Buffalo. The New York Daily News is reporting that the production will bring in $63 million to New York City with and additional $7 million to Buffalo. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio chimed in with what the shoot meant for his city stating,

We welcome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 to New York City, and look forward to the many jobs and tens of millions of jobs this will bring to our local economy.

With a budget of $125 million and a box office take of $485 million the only question concerning the future of this franchise was how many sequels was Paramount willing to green light. For better or for worse, the next instalment of the series is shaping up to give fans more of what they experienced in the 2014 film. Michael Bay returns to the franchise as a producer. Bay is bringing back the core (human) cast of Megan Fox (April O’Neil), Will Arnett (Vernon Fenwick) and Tohoru Masamune (Shredder). Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles director Jonathan Liebesman will not be returning and David Green is set to helm the sequel.

So far there haven’t been any plot details released about the sequel but Omelte has confirmed that the iconic villainous duo Bebop and Rocksteady will make their big screen début. Those old enough to remember the 1991 live-action movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze will remember the “pre-internet” fan outrage at the franchise’s decision to swap out Bebop and Rocksteady for Tokka and Rahzar.

Despite bringing in nearly half a billion dollars at the box office, the latest Turtles film received a tepid reaction from both critics and fans. Speaking as a life long Turtles fan I can confidently say that the previous five films in the Turtles franchise have taught me to go into the next movie with extremely low expectations.
