THE BIG SHORT (2015) Movie Trailer: Pitt, Gosling, Bale & The Economic Crisis

The Big Short Trailer. Adam McKay‘s The Big Short (2016) move trailer stars Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Karen Gillan, and Ryan Gosling. The Big Short‘s plot synopsis: “The men who made millions from a global economic meltdown.”

It seems I’ve big-shorted myself by having purchased the novel this is adapted from years ago, and having let it sit and collect dust ever since. This unexpected trailer comes out of nowhere this morning, as most exciting things you never knew existed do, and it certainly gives me motivation to crack that book open and start reading.

The Big Short is about a group of bankers who decide to unite and defraud the big banks who were responsible for the housing crisis of 2008. It’s like an Ocean’s Eleven but in far more nefarious grounds. The economic collapse killed people, bankrupted them, made them lose everything. “When did we forget all that?”, Steve Carrell asks. Indeed, why is no one in jail?

The cast is incredible. Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Karen Gillan, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carrell, Melissa Leo, and Selena Gomez (admittedly, an outlier). This trailer, however, had me slightly underwhelmed. I’m sure there’s a good movie in there, but from the footage this is cut together from it feels like we’ll just be sitting in boardrooms – far from the Wolf of Wall Street excess this rock ‘n roll trailer is trying to imply. To be clear – I’m good with boardrooms. I love boardrooms. Margin Call was a movie I thoroughly enjoyed, actually.
