Sacha Baron Cohen, in a rare dramatic turn, portrays famed anti-war activist Abbie Hoffman who was put on trial in 1969 alongside fellow activist Tom Hayden (played by Eddie Redmayne), and Black Panther Party activist Bobby Seale (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Seale was considered as the eighth man on trial but was eventually thrown off from this particular case by a racially biased judge (in the movie, he is played by veteran actor Frank Langella).

The Trial of the Chicago 7‘s plot synopsis: “What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard.
