TV Review: GREY’S ANATOMY: Season 10, Episode 19: I’m Winning [ABC]

Patrick Dempsey Greys Anatomy Im Winning You

ABCs Grey’s Anatomy I’m Winning You TV Show Review. Grey’s Anatomy: Season 10, Episode 19: I’m Winning opened with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) in bed. They waited, along with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson (Camilla Ludlow) for the phone call that would confirm whether Cristina was indeed a nominee for the Harper Avery Award. The call came in, and thus the aptly named title for this chapter was born, “I’m Winning.” Cristina spent the rest of the episode claiming that the nomination meant nothing…she is hilarious, if not delusional.

There were a lot of sick kids at Grey Sloan this week. First we saw Braden (the boy in the bubble,) develop a friendship with one of the girls (that was introduced last week) with heart disease. At one point Braden had broke out of his bubble to run and play with Frankie. His freedom was cut short by Karev, who stepped in to yell at everyone around Braden to not touch him, his immune system had been compromised. Armani Jackson is a very good young actor, his expressions of desperation and embarrassment are strong. Expertly expressed.

Later in the episode and after having been goaded by Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr) that she was jealous of Yang, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) had a moment of sudden inspiration and a new plan for treating Braden. Thereby ensuring the young lad would be returning for next week’s episode.

There was obvious jealousy in regard to the Harper Avery Award nomination that Cristina had won at the top of the episode. Bailey and Meredith struggled to not strangle her. Once again showing much charm, Meredith hid behind a very funny manufactured congratulatory champagne toast.

Cristina hit a roadblock when she found out that the heart pump she needed to save the little boy was not FDA approved. She admitted to Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) that she really did want the award. She even spent time googling the other nominees and took great ‘Yang’ pleasure in their publicized failures. Later she used her nomination to leverage the boy a heart pump and bought him a little more time.

It looked as though both children would live…and that Cristina Yang might be the next recipient of the Harper Avery Award.

Alex Karev still contemplated moving in to private practice. Though still worried about “selling out”, he called the private practice doctor by night’s end. No GA fan wants Karev to go in to private practice. Addison (Kate Walsh) already did that.

Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) determined that Callie Torres’ (Sara Ramirez brain was stimulated when observing a child. By the end of the installment, she and Arizona Robbins (Kate Capshaw), very much in love, decided to have another child

Meredith’s touching voice-over about the Harper Avery nomination ended the episode. “My mom didn’t think she’d win…she thought it was a popularity contest. When she won, she came home and told me she didn’t win the Harper Avery…she earned it.”

A superb chapter that sets up new relationships and continued plot lines at Grey Sloan, and also the ultimately wistful farewell to one of Grey’s most beloved characters, Cristina Yang.
