The 71-year-old Oscar winner plays an ER nurse who learns her journalist son has just been captured by terrorists while reporting in Syria.

Unable to make any headway with the U.S. government, Sarandon’s character tries a different route. She goes underground, connecting herself with a secret network of advocates and negotiators. They instruct her on how to raise enough money to pay off the 20 million ransom in secret. While using back channels and covert negotiations, she makes a last-gasp attempt to free her son — the question is, will terrorists listen to a mother’s desperate plea?

Viper Room also stars Jerome Charvet, Amir Malaklou, Kristin Villanueva, Joel Kim Booster, Mattea Conforti, Sierra Boggess, Adepero Oduye, and Colby Minifie.
