Box Office: August 12-14, 2011: RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Caesar, Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2011

The apes are kings. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was Number One at the box office for the second weekend in a row with $27.5 Million for $104.8 Million so far. The Help premiered in Second Place with $26 Million. Final Destination 5 premiered in Third Place $18 Million. The Smurfs were Fourth with $13.7 Million for $101.7 Million so far. 30 Minutes or Less premiered in Fifth Place with $13.3 Million. Cowboys & Aliens, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Captain America: The First Avenger, Crazy, Stupid, Love., and The Change-Up rounded out the top ten respectively.

The Help is a 2011 comedy-drama film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel of the same name about a young white woman, Skeeter Phelan, and her relationship with two black maids during Civil Rights era America in early 1960s. The film is Tate Taylor’s directorial debut, and stars Emma Stone, Mike Vogel, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Allison Janney.

Final Destination 5 is a 2011 3D horror film written by Eric Heisserer and directed by Steven Quale. It is the fifth installment to the Final Destination film franchise and stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Miles Fisher, Arlen Escarpeta, David Koechner, and Tony Todd. Todd is the only returning cast member of the series.

30 Minutes or Less is a 2011 American action-comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer starring Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride and Nick Swardson.
