Frank Grillo Reveals That He Will Not Be Reappearing As Crossbones

Captain America: Civil War actor Frank Grillo announced that he will not be reprising his role as Crossbones anytime soon.

Known to longtime Captain America fans as a homegrown lieutenant of the Red Skull, the character made his big screen debut in last year’s Civil War, facing off against the heroes and meeting what by all appearances was certain death. This, to say nothing of today’s news, was undoubtedly unwelcome to hardcore fans of the character, particularly in light of the fact that the movie was Crossbones’ first theatrical appearance to date.

Although Grillo previously  hinted that the villain might be able to return somehow, he seemed to walk back his comments when speaking with Collider. While he did enjoy his experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the American Ultra actor does not see where the movies could take the character from here on out. shares the following:

“If DeMonaco was still involved and they came up with a great idea, then I think I would do [another Purge movie]. Otherwise, I think I’m done. Same thing with Captain America,” Grillos stated. “There’s nowhere for it to go, unless you’re Captain America or Iron Man. They were talking about it, but I was like, ‘You know what? I’d just rather not do it.’ I’m so appreciative and grateful to have been a part of something that big. I’m appreciative of The Purge. It’s become a part of the lexicon and the zeitgeist knows what it is, so that’s been fun.
