Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch in Final Talks for Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch can add Doctor Strange to his long list of film roles as the British actor has been in final negotiations to play the Sorcerer Supreme in the upcoming film.

According to Deadline, the Sherlock star is close to getting a deal with Marvel Studios to play Doctor Strange in Marvel’s next film that would become a part of Phase 3. The same went for Joaquin Phoenix who was also in negotiations to play the part, but he ended up passing up the role. Hopefully Marvel will make their final choice before it falls through. There were other actors who applied for the role like Jared Leto and Tom Hardy.

Cumberbatch has already gotten praise for his recent film The Imitation Game, which no doubt will give him Oscar buzz for playing World War II hero Alan Turing. If Doctor Strange becomes successful for Marvel, it could finally make Cumberbatch a household name in the US. The next films that Cumberbatch will star in this year include the Penguins of Madagascar and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Besides shooting for the fourth series of Sherlock, 2015 will also be a busy year for the actor as he has some films lined up for release like the animated film Magik and the crime drama Black Mass.

Doctor Strange will be directed by Deliver Us From Evil director Scott Derrickson. The script will be rewritten by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts, based on an original script by Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

While there is no official date for the film’s release, the timeline suggests that Doctor Strange would end up with the July 8, 2016 release date. Do you all agree that Benedict Cumberbatch is the right choice to play Doctor Strange?
