FAST AND FURIOUS 6 (2013) Goes IMAX, Dwayne Johnson on Hobbs Spin-Off

IMAX Fast and Furious

Fast and Furious 6 gets IMAX Release, Dwayne Johnson talks Hobbs Spin-Off. Justin Lin‘s Fast & Furious 6 (2013) will be getting the IMAX treatment around the world on May 22, 2013. That is two days earlier than the theatrical release for the film in the United States. Films sometimes get released earlier in other regions of the world before they are released here so this is not unusual. With piracy so prevalent, I think this is a mistake.

Dwayne Johnson may be getting his own U.S. Diplomatic Security Service Luke Hobbs spin-off film. His character first appeared in in Fast Five, will appear in Fast and Furious 6, and presumably in Part 7. Dwayne Johnson gave hints in a recent interview that a separate Hobbs film could materialize before Fast and Furious 7.

Possibly — possibly after this one. Possibly. I’m not quite too sure. I know that that’s the goal and we continue to build that character and let him take shape, for one. But yes, I can’t wait.

That means the studio has already broached the subject with him. If he gets his own DSS Hobbs film, his new sidekick played by Gina Carano will probably be featured in the film as well.

Fast and Furious 6 also stars Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Clara Paget, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, Rowena Diamond, and Kim Kold.

Fast & Furious 6‘s plot synopsis: “Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe.  But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez).  The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London.  Payment?  Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.”
