LOGAN (2017): Wolverine 3 Gets Official Name

Hugh Jackman Logan

Wolverine 3’s Name Revealed As Logan

Hugh Jackman announced on social media that the official name of the third installment in the X-Men spin-off series will be Logan.

The simple straightforward name nevertheless is evocative of the original Marvel Comics‘ classic Old Man Logan story arc. It’s unclear if the film will be based primarily on that story line, but according to material from the script posted by director James Mangold, Wolverine will be significantly less powerful than he has been in past movies and thus more vulnerable to enemies as well as his own demons:

This all falls into line with what Jackman recently told ET, saying “There’s going to be some stuff coming out in the next week or so. That’s all I’ll say. I’m not good. I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything. Basically it’s going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done.”

Mister Sinister and his “Essex Corp” are confirmed to be the villain(s) of the film, with a number of choices for who could be playing him, including Boyd Holbrook (possible), Richard E. Grant (likely), or even Stephen Merchant (probably not). We know that the primary villains for the film will include both The Reavers, as well as Wolverine’s favorite group, Weapon X. It stands to reason that Sinister’s role in the film will be tied to the creation of X-23, the young female clone of Wolverine also along for the film’s road trip, which makes the post-credit scene for X-Men: Apocalypse finally make some sense.

**** We hired Reggie, fulfilled our obligations to him, and he quit in the middle of covering two TV series w/ no notice and no explanation. He then ignored our emails asking him to complete his coverage (we had no one else to cover those TV shows). He didn't care. We regret hiring him and we regret putting our trust in him. **** An aspiring writer, longtime film junkie, and former UCLARadio.com disc jockey (where I graduated with a BA in Political Science), I've made the jump from penning book reviews and current events editorials for HonorSociety.org to writing movie and TV news and reviews. When I'm not working towards my certificate in Radio and Television/Video Production at Fullerton College, I enjoy reading (horror, science fiction, and historical/political nonfiction are particular favorites), participating in my school's TV and theatre clubs, attending movie screenings, plays, concerts, and other events, and trying to come up with pithy things to say on social media. Believe it or not, there are occasions where I find time to write for my own leisure.
