News: The Weinsteins Rail new releases

The Weinsteins have decided to form a new distribution channel, in collaboration with Genius Products, for some of their future releases called Third Rail Releases. Profitability in the home entertainment arena is one of the primary goals of the new distribution banner as is the addition of Weinstein Company’s new Chief Operating Officer Lee Solomon. The distribution channel’s goal is to showcase ”’inventive and edgy vanguard films’ from inventive and independent filmmakers.” With this in mind, Third Rail Releases’ first foray into the distribution field will be George Romero’s Diary of the Dead, which is slated for a theatrical release on Feburary 18, 2008.
