Stephen Gaghan‘s Gold (2016) movie trailer and movie poster star Bryce Dallas Howard, Matthew McConaughey, Toby Kebbell, Edgar Ramírez, and Rachael Taylor. Gold‘s plot synopsis: based on the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corp. mining scandal, “Gold is the story of Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey), a modern-day prospector, hustler, and dreamer, desperate for a lucky break. Left with few options, Wells teams up with an equally luckless geologist (Edgar Ramirez) to execute a grandiose, last-ditch effort: to find gold deep in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.”

This could be an interesting rise and fall film if for no other plot elements than the gold mine and Indonesia. Gold immediately reminded me of The Wolf of Wall Street and Blow. I haven’t researched the mining company in this film but I hope that Kenny Wells bought all the rights, land and mining rights, before he found the gold. If he didn’t, like Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network not reading the contract before signing it, it would be a tragic oversight on his part.

Gold also stars Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Michael Landes, Bruce Greenwood, Stacy Keach, Adam LeFevre, Timothy Simons, Macon Blair, Lora Martinez-Cunningham, and Frank Wood.
