Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg‘s Overboard (2018) movie trailer 2 stars Anna Faris, Swoosie Kurtz, Eva Langoria, Eugenio Derbez, Celeste Ziegler, John Hannah, Emily Maddison, Josh Segarra, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Mel Rodriguez, Omar Chapparo, Garry Chalk, Toby Hargrave, Hannah Nordberg, and Mariana Trevino.

Overboard plot summary from Imdb:

A spoiled, wealthy yacht owner is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee. A remake of the 1987 comedy.

I can’t remember the last movie I’ve seen Anna Faris in (although I have the nagging suspicion that it was The House Bunny), so I have to say I was pleased to see that she had a leading role in another film. Unfortunately, it appears that the film in question has little else going for it.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t get over the casting of Eugenio Derbez as the hardass boss who gets amnesia and convinced he’s Faris’s character’s husband. I get that the point of acting is to play roles different from who you really are, but I just can’t find myself buying Derbez as this type of character. Again, it’s just a trailer, but still it seems like quite a stretch.

As for the humor here, it appears fairly conventional, with Derbez even working in some slapstick when he’s forced to work as a laborer. Not my cup of tea, but it might be fun for the kiddies.
