J.J Abrams Directing Star Wars Episode VII. Director J.J Abrams has been tapped as the director of Star Wars: Episode 7 for LucasFilm and  The Walt Disney Company. J.J Abrams will begin his directly after his Star Trek Into Darkness duties have been completely. Confirmed: J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars Episode 7! Sources say the negotiations quite down the road.

And from Variety:

J.J. Abrams will direct the seventh “Star Wars” saga for Disney and Lucasfilm.

The Mouse House is closing the deal with the prolific producer and director, who is currently finishing “Star Trek Into Darkness” for Paramount.

We reported here that Oscar winner Michael Arndt was hired to write Episode 7 but one has to wonder if Abrams will not bring his own writers from Bad Robot to take a crack at the script as well.

I believe Abrams being tapped as the director is great news. Everyone knows he can handle action form Alias and scifi from Fringe and Star Trek. If will be very cool to see what he does with the Jedi and the Sith.
