Kristin Chenoweth may star in Jennifer Lopez film The Boy Next Door. Blumhouse is teaming up with Smart Entertainment and Nuyorican Productions for the project. Universal will distribute. Rob Cohen will direct the micro-budget movie.

Jennifer Lopez will play Claire Peterson, a well-respected mother and teacher, who recently separated from her husband. She finds herself attracted to the teenage boy (Noah) who moves in next door and befriends her son. Her son Kevin is bullied and mocked, constantly sick, and is a frail young boy. When she starts and abruptly ends her illicit romance with Noah, he’s not ready to let go. The film follows the thriller themes of Fatal Attraction.

Chenoweth will play Lopez’s best friend, named Vicky.

Barbara Curry penned the script. Jason Blum, Elain Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina and John Jacobs are producing. Zach Unterman is serving as executive producer.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin this fall in Los Angeles.

The movie will be the latest collaboration between Blumhouse and Universal, who last worked together on The Purge, the $3 million thriller that grossed more than $64 million domestically. Blumhouse is additionally coming off the $40-plus million opening of Insidious: Chapter 2, which cost approximately $5 million to make.

Chenoweth has made a multi-platform career moving between theater, the big screen, the small screen, and a outstanding singing career. She originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, earning her a Tony nomination. She has also starred in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, for which she won a Tony award.

Her television credits include a guest-starring role on Glee and a series regular on the short lived Pushing Daisies. She also starred in G.C.B., and is voicing a character in Rio 2. Chenoweth also wrote an autobiography titled A Little Bit Wicked, which hit the New York Times best-seller list.
