The Other Boleyn Girls

With The Other Boleyn Girl coming out today, I thought it would be a good idea to post some pics of the films’ main stars, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. The Other Boleyn Girl is “a sumptuous and sensual tale of intrigue, romance and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in European history: two beautiful sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn, driven by their family’s blind ambition, compete for the love of the handsome and passionate King Henry VIII.”

  • I have to see this. I’ve become really interested in this story after watching the excellent TV series The Tudors.

  • Now I have to see The Tudors. I heard the Boleyn girls were represented in the series a week ago plus the fact that Peter O’Toole stars in it makes it a must see. I seriously doubt that I will love this show as much as Rome or Deadwood but since both of those shows are now canceled, it would be nice to sink into a well done period piece again.

  • I’m sure you won’t regret it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Sam Neill are absolutely amazing. I haven’t seen Rome but I loved Deadwood. It would be unfair to compare Deadwood and The Tudors as they are so different but I think I like The Tudors better.

  • I’ll watch the first few episodes of The Tudors for a general impression then go from there. You have a point. It isn’t fair to compare Deadwood and The Tudors except for the fact that they are both period dramas.

Do watch it! I find it very engaging and both Natalie and Scarlett were awesome. I love Natalie Portman more than Johansson but they were so perfect for the roles.

The costumes were cool, and there are a number of departures from the novel, for cinematic impact, but it’s the best film to enjoy the weekends.

Hi Jorn, yeah Jonathan Rhys Meyers was superb in The Tudors! Not all period movies are stuffy and sentimental! LOL

  • I just watched the first season of The Tudors. I do want to see how it differs from The Other Boleyn Girl.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is very “passionate” in The Tudors.

  • Hi Jed 🙂

Reginald, JRM sure was “passionate”, but it wasn’t overacting. It felt powerful and real. Because of The Tudors I have been starting to look at movies starring him now. He is quickly turning out to be one of my favorites. I also want to see how The Other Boleyn Girl differs. From the reviews I have read it’s quite a lot. Apparently Cardinal Wolsey doesn’t even appear in the movie :O. Quite shocking, since he was one of the King Henry’s major advisers in real life and played a major role in the drama with the Boleyn sisters.

  • I recently watched The Other Boleyn Girl and Cardinal Wolsey does not appear. He is mentioned once or twice by Natalie Portman and that’s it. I have seen episodes of The Tudors that beat this entire film. Too much story was condensed into too tight a runtime.
