FX’s The Strain Runaways TV Show Review. The Strain: Season 1, Episode 5: Runaways will leave your skin crawling. It’s always good to see big screen actors diving into a TV series and playing interesting roles. Ruby Wain (Regina King), talent manager, is willing to do just about anything to make sure her client…gets on the stage. With a big performance coming up, she calls on an Urologist to see what’s wrong with him. It doesn’t take long before the Urologist finds out her job sucks and Ruby needs to get some new heels.

Meanwhile, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) gets schooled by Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley), on what kind of creature they are really facing. Eph, trying to keep his composure listens carefully to Abraham’s theory. His world is slowly getting rocked. These two make an awesome odd couple. The performances by David Bradley will just keep you coming back for more. He reminds me of Willie Nelson…with a sword.

Flashback. Poland 1944. A train filled with unfortunate passengers, moves with purpose to a concentration camp. A young Abraham is about to have his first encounter with the creature. It’s bad enough to end up in a concentration camp. Having a blood-sucking creature lurking around and killing folks makes it much worse. Night after night the creature preys upon unsuspecting men while they sleep in their bunks. One night, Abraham gets a good look at the monstrosity while it kills one of his friends. No wonder he can deal out death without blinking.

Joan Luss (Leslie Hope), after the plane incident, assumes she just needs rest. Her kids wake her up to treat her to breakfast in bed. Fortunately, the Nanny is equipped with basic common sense and whisks them off to the movies before mom makes a full transformation. Her decision greatly disturbs Joan and leaves her blinking in red. Bronxville is in for a big surprise.

Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) has to cut her little vacation short. While trying to negotiate a deal to keep he mother in an expensive nursing home, party crashers force them to vacate the premises. Looks like home is the only safe place for them now.

Who would have guessed the sewers would be so alive with activity? Vasilly Fet (Kevin Durand) takes a trip down under and finds out what is making the rats run. What is it that makes people so brave in the dark…with eerie music playing? After being outnumbered by some blood-thirsty folks, Vasilly finds himself running for his life. He barely escapes but not before shedding some new light on the situation.

After following some clues left hanging around, Abraham equips Ephraim with a Nail gun. The duo finds a mysterious shed on the premises. While investigating, Ephraim gets footage of Abraham putting work in and some needed evidence. While trying to share his evidence with Dr. Everett Barnes (Daniel Kash), Ephraim quickly finds out he’s not the only one with video.
