23 JUMP STREET: Third 21 JUMP STREET Film Is In the Works

Third 21 Jump Street Film is Coming. The ‘Jump Street’ franchise has just been awarded a third act. It’s surprising to say the least, given the last film, ’22 Jump Street’, was released in June this year. Though, there’s no arguing with success. 22 Jump Street, made with a modest budget of 65 million dollars, burst into screens and earned close to 320 million dollars worldwide.

The franchise seems to have done absolutely no harm to Jonah Hill’s reputation as reliable comic, who’s now worked with some of the top players in Hollywood (if you take into account his fellow cast members on ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’).

The Jump Street movie franchise, loosely based on the late 80’s and 90’s television show of the same name, revolves around the “special cases” being worked on by members of an elite undercover police unit. The unit’s headquarters are/were located on 21 Jump Street (hence the name). They’ve since moved to 22 Jump Street and I imagine they might require moving vans again for the third part of this trilogy.

So far, news on the sequel is hard to come by, with most news sources only acknowledging the idea that a third movie is in its initial stages. If the post movie credit scene is anything to go by, we could be in for an array of Jump Street movies to come in the future.

The script is going to be written by Rodney Rothman, who worked on 22 Jump Street. Again, news is scattered and as of yet no official release date has been announced. 22 Jump Street was a commercial success, with a return on investment higher than many Sony Pictures projects this year, including: ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’, ‘Godzilla’, and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’.

So, till we have more information, just sit back and enjoy the possible sequels, in case you missed them earlier.
