Are you always voicing your opinion about the latest movie release or TV show episode? Are you a geek self-starter? Are you always arguing that [insert director’s name here] is the greatest visionary since the birth of the motion picture? Are you such a cinephile when it comes to home cinema that you are always fiddling with your set up and striving for the very best sound you can achieve? Would you like to have your voice heard by tens-of-thousands of people per month?

If the answer is yes to any of the above questions, read about the volunteer positions that are currently available below (click on title to be taken to a description and requirements):

News Writer

We want someone who is able to produce two movie or TV show news articles per day, mostly in the hours between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. or 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. eastern standard time.

The person should be able to articulate their perspective on film/TV news in an entertaining and interesting way.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Love of film and TV shows
  • Extensive knowledge of TV shows and movies (both past and present)
  • Willingness to learn WordPress and basic photo editing (cropping and adjusting photo sizes)
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous writing experience
  • Previous online research experience
  • WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in Journalism, English, or Creative Writing

Available areas of coverage: Movie News, TV Show News, Image Articles, Trailer Articles,  Casting Articles

Your application should include the following:

Please include two (2) original writing samples. Minimum 300 words each. These should be articles on two pieces of movie or TV news that you found particularly interesting this week.

Film Critic

We are looking for a cinephile who loves to write and express themselves about a film they have just watched. We are looking for someone who can dig beneath the surface of a film and discuss what they see there.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Love of film
  • Ability to see new releases in-theater the weekend of their release
  • Extensive knowledge of movies (both past and present)
  • Willingness to learn WordPress and basic photo editing (cropping and adjusting photo sizes)
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous writing and film criticism experience
  • Ability to attend Thursday night screenings for new in-theater films
  • Ability to attend advanced press screenings
  • WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in English or Creative Writing

Your application should include the following:

Two (2) written film review samples. Minimum 600 words each.

TV Critic

We are looking for a TV lover who loves to write and express themselves about a TV show episode they have just watched. We are looking for someone who can dig beneath the surface of a TV show episode or a streamed TV season and analysis what they see there.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Love of television shows
  • A cable TV subscription
  • Ability to watch new episodes of a TV show every week when it airs
  • Willingness to learn WordPress and basic photo editing (cropping and adjusting photo sizes)
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon TV subscription
  • Ability to stream and screen TV show episodes online
  • Previous writing and TV show criticism experience
  • WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in English or Creative Writing

Your application should include the following:

Two (2) written TV show review samples. Minimum 500 words each.

In-home Digital Media Critic

We are looking for a movie or TV show lover who loves to write and express themselves about a DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra, or Digital HD they have just watched. The potential reviewer also needs to watch all the extras on a disc or discs and comment of them as well as the picture and sound quality of the film.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Access to a digital play back machine (for DVDs, Blu-rays, 4K Ultras, Digital HDs), a separate sound system, and a high-definition television
  • A U.S. mailing address or a P.O. Box to receive media for review.
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous writing and TV show criticism experience
  • WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in English or Creative Writing

Your application should include the following:

Two (2) written DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra, or Digital HD reviews. Review the media and the film (or TV show). Minimum 800 words each.

Editorial Writer

We are looking for someone who is able to write editorials on a wide range of film or television shows topics that they find interesting and want to express their thoughts on. The editorials can be on any film or television show subject.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to express yourself cogently in long-form writing
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous editorial or essay writing experience
  • WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in Journalism, English, or Creative Writing

Available areas of coverage: regular Editorials and Weekend Superhero.

Your application should include the following:

Two (2) film/TV editorial writing samples. Minimum 800 words each.

Entertaining List Writer

We are looking for someone who is able to write entertaining lists about the film genre or the TV show genre (and/or  their sub-genres e.g. comic book movies and TV shows).

Qualifications

Required:

  • A mind that the possesses a fervent imagination
  • Extensive knowledge of movies and TV shows (both past and present)
  • Willingness to learn WordPress and basic photo editing (cropping and adjusting photo sizes)
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous writing and film criticism experience
  • WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in English or Creative Writing

Your application should include the following:

Two (2) written list-style samples on a film or TV topic that fits the theme of this site. The list should have 4-5 entries plus an introduction (150 word minimum) and a conclusion (150 word minimum).

Podcaster

We are looking for someone that wants to have their voice heard when it comes to a film genre, a TV genre, a specific TV show or a specific film or TV sub-genre like comic book films or TV shows.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Love of films or TV shows
  • Audio recording and editing equipment and software
  • Willingness to learn podcasting, WordPress, and basic photo editing (cropping and adjusting photo sizes)
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous podcasting experience
  • Previous WordPress and basic photo editing experience
  • College degree in English or Creative Writing

Your application should include the following:

One (1) mp3 sample. Ten-to-fifteen minutes minimum.

Video Film Critic

Trailer Reactor

We are looking for a film or TV lover who loves to create videos and express themselves about new trailers. We are looking for someone who can watch a trailer on-camera and react to it during and after the trailer has ended in a constructive and critical way.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Love of film and / or television shows
  • An HD video recording device
  • Ability to see watch new trailers on a daily basis
  • Extensive knowledge of movies and TV shows (both past and present)
  • Willingness to learn WordPress and basic photo editing (cropping and adjusting photo sizes)
  • The ability to self-edit

Preferred:

  • Previous video film or television show criticism experience
  • Previous WordPress, video editing, and basic photo editing experience

Your application should include the following:

One (1) video trailer reaction sample.

The positions are open to anyone over the age of 18 – regardless of where you live – though respondents who live near industry centers (New York City, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, etc.) may be privy to additional opportunities (interviews, screenings, events, etc.).

Before contacting us, a reminder: these contributing positions are freelance. There is no pay except for: building your writing and publication resume through FilmBook, free media (DVDs, Blu-rays, etc. if you become a contributor to FilmBook in that area), free advanced press screenings for films (depending on where you live), and free admission to film festivals and conventions (depending on where you live).

If you have past experience writing for a movie website or a weblog, please include a few of your best links that demonstrate your highest quality work in your email.
