A TALE OF LOVE AND DARKNESS (2015) Movie Trailer: Natalie Portman’s Directorial Debut

Natalie Portman in A Tale of Love and Darkness

A Tale of Love and Darkness Trailer. Natalie Portman‘s A Tale of Love and Darkness (2015) movie trailer stars Natalie Portman, Makram Khoury, and Shira Haas. A Tale of Love and Darkness‘ plot synopsis: “A drama based on the memoir of Amos Oz, a writer, journalist, and advocate of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

Natalie Portman has directed a film, and it is, shockingly, about the founding of Israel. I love this woman, and respect her talents and individuality greatly, but do differ with some of her personal, political views. The great thing about great films is that those things fall to the wayside, as characters become relatable, universally, and struggles that once seemed owned by one people now become so apparently shared that lines start to blur. My hopes are that this film tells a great story and isn’t biased against a certain group of people. We’ll have to see.

According to Slashfilm, “For her feature directorial debut, Natalie Portman also wrote and starred in A Tale of Love and Darkness, an adaptation of the autobiographical novel by Amos Oz, effectively an account of the founding of the state of Isreal as recounted through events in Oz’s own life. The story begins in 1945 in Jerusalem, honing in on Oz’s family — young Amos (Amir Tessler), parents Arieh (Gilad Kahana) and Fania (Portman) — as tensions mount between Jews and Arabs towards the end of the Mandate for Palestine. There’s no domestic trailer for the film just yet, but we do have an international trailer for A Tale of Love and Darkness. While there’s no English language dialogue here, the trailer still communicates quite a lot through the imagery captured by Portman and her cinematographer Slawomir Idziak (Black Hawk Down, Gattaca).”

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
