AGENT CARTER: Madame Masque to Appear as Main Villain for Season 2 [ABC]

Madame Masque Becomes Main Villain for Agent Carter Season 2. Peggy Carter is about to lock horns against another classic Marvel villain in the form of Madame Masque. The Marvel villainess will be making her appearance as the main baddie for the ABC series’ second season.

Madame Masque has been known in the comics to be pitted against Iron Man, and sometimes she was even his lover at one point. However, we will be seeing her in a much earlier time period on Agent Carter before Tony Stark was even born. It will be quite interesting to see how the show will tackle this character on the small screen as she goes up against Peggy Carter when she moves to Los Angeles when we catch up with her next season.

Agent Carter showrunners Tara Butters and Chris Dingess spoke with /Film on how they will adapt Madame Masque into the 1940s setting in the second season. “I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We’ve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a ‘40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that’s part of what we’re mining with this character.” So we may be seeing a different version of Madame Masque in her debut. The showrunners confirmed that the role has already been cast, but they’ve kept the details under wraps.

So what does this mean for Peggy Carter? Would this be the start of a rivalry to last for decades? “For me it is, because I feel like that is something that… as much as there are not enough female heroes just on television, I feel like having a female villain is just as equally powerful”, said Tara. Dingess later added, ” I also think because she’s a female villain, her story informs Peggy’s story in a unique way and vice versa.”

In the comics, Madame Masque was introduced as Whitney Frost, the daughter of criminal mastermind Count Nefaria. Mentored by her father, Frost soon takes her father’s place as the head of the crime syndicate Maggia. Her criminal activities later gain the attention of Tony Stark as the crime organization targets Stark Industries.
