Baywatch Trailer 2

The second movie trailer for Baywatch (2017) has been released by Paramount Pictures. This trailer is far more self-referential than the first trailer for Baywatch was (minus the slow motion reference – that was in both trailers). Chance and point, Zac Efron: “this has nothing to do with saving people.” Dwayne Johnson: “No. This is Baywatch you p*ssy.”

The trailer is funny and no one takes themselves seriously. It is pretty hilarious in fact. Somehow the lifeguards think they are crime fighters. It takes a police officer to tell them no, they are not law enforcement. They are sleuths. It was a direct refernece to the Tv show and it was pretty effective. Zac Efron takes the self-referencing even further when all of the main characters are sitting around as table.

There is a definite and intentional Fast & Furious vibe that flows through some of the trailer i.e. everyone dressing up to attend a lavish party, presumably undercover…undercover lifeguards. “Entertaining but far-fetched” indeed.

Unlikely the first trailer for this film, the threat to the beach is made completely apparent in this trailer. Giving away a key plot point is not the route that I would have taken with the trailer. That and the cameos should be left for the film. At least the cameos weren’t ruined in this trailer. Baywatch doesn’t come out until May so I guess there is plenty of time for the cameos to be spoiled as well.

Baywatch‘s plot synopsis: “Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.”

Seth Gordon‘s Baywatch also stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jon Bass, Priyanka Chopra, David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Angelique Kenney, Charlotte McKinney, Kelly Rohrbach, Hannibal Buress, Oscar Nuñez, Rob Huebel, Charisse Lyon, Dawn Soleri, Inder Kumar, Amin Joseph, Brandon Larracuente, and Jack Kesy.
