BIG HERO 6, THE MIST, & THE DEPARTED TV Series Adaptations Are on The Way

Big Hero 6 Movie Poster

Big Hero 6, The Mist, and The Departed are all getting the TV series treatment. Television is seeing a surge of film properties being brought to their airwaves. The latest films that will be making this transition are The Departed, The Mist, and Big Hero 6.

The Departed

Producer Roy Lee compares The Departed transition to the small screen to that of Fargo i.e. “translating [the original] idea into other settings with new characters…We were having discussions about making INFERNAL AFFAIRS [the film that The Departed was based on] a television series. A different city, so it’s not anything like THE DEPARTED, but essentially THE DEPARTED as a TV series.”

Discussions are currently underway about what type of network would be best for the new series: broadcast, cable, or a streaming service.

The Mist

Producer Christian Torpe and Dimension Television are working on bringing the horror TV series The Mist to life for SpikeTV, former home of Blade: The Series. Like the film, The Mist TV series will be about a “seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc.”

That is putting it lightly. The film version of Frank Darabont‘s The Mist was very impressive, especially the ending, which made the film in many ways.

Big Hero 6

Producers Mark McCorkle, Bob Schooley, Nick Filippi are shepherding an animated TV series based on the oscar-winning Pixar / Walt Disney Animation Studios film Big Hero 6. The new series will air on Disney XD.

Inspired by the comic book of the same name, the series:

picks up immediately following the events in the 2014 feature and continues the adventures and friendship of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his compassionate, cutting-edge robot Baymax. Alongside them on their journey are control freak Wasabi, scientist Honey Lemon, fanboy Fred and no-nonsense Go Go, who together form the legendary superhero team Big Hero 6. As the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, Hiro now faces daunting academic challenges and the social trials of being the little man on campus. Off campus, the stakes are raised for the high-tech heroes as they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.

There is no word yet if the voice actors from the film version will reprise their voice acting roles for the TV incarnation.
