Box Office: January 25-27, 2013: HANSEL AND GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS, MAMA

Box Office January 25-27, 2013. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters premiered in First Place at the box office over the weekend with $19 Million. Mama was Second with $12.8 Million. Silver Linings Playbook was Third with $10 Million. Zero Dark Thirty was Fourth with $9.8 Million. Parker premiered in Fifth Place with $7 Million. Django Unchained, Movie 43 (which premiered this weekend), Gangster Squad, Broken City, and Les Miserables rounded out the top ten respectively.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is a 2013 action-horror dark fantasy film with black comedy elements written and directed by Tommy Wirkola and filmed in 3D. It is a continuation to the German folk fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel”, which was recorded by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812. The film is starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in the titular roles of a brother-and-sister duo of professional witch hunters, with Famke Janssen as the deadly leader of a coven of evil witches that they seek out to destroy.

Parker is a 2013 American crime thriller film directed by Taylor Hackford. Starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez, the film is adapted from Flashfire, the 19th Parker novel, written by Donald Westlake under the name Richard Stark.

Movie 43 is a 2013 American comedy film directed and produced by Peter Farrelly, and written by Steve Baker, Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko. The film features 12 different storylines, each one done by a different director including Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner, and Jonathan van Tulleken. It stars one of the biggest ensemble casts ever in film, including Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Anna Faris, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seann William Scott, Emma Stone, and Kate Winslet.
