Box Office June 15-17, 2018

Incredibles 2 premiered in the Number One spot at the box office over the weekend with $180 Million. That take blew away all box office expectation for the premiere of the superhero sequel film. Audiences have been waiting for a sequel to The Incredibles for over a decade and they turned out in droves for Incredibles 2.

This fiscal performance by Incredibles 2 almost guarantees that a third Incredibles film will be green-lit by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

The films in the Top Ten that opened this weekend at the box office:

Incredibles 2 is a 2018 American 3D computer-animated superhero film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Written and directed by Brad Bird, it is the sequel to 2004’s The Incredibles. The plot follows the Parr family as they balance regaining the public’s trust of superheroes with their civilian family life, only to combat a new foe who seeks to turn the populace against all supers. The film stars Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell and Samuel L. Jackson, who reprise their roles from the first film, while newcomers to the cast include Huck Milner, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener and Jonathan Banks. The film’s musical score was composed by Michael Giacchino, who had worked on the music for the previous film.

Tag is a 2018 American comedy film directed by Jeff Tomsic (in his directorial debut) and written by Rob McKittrick and Mark Steilen. The film is based on a true story that was published in The Wall Street Journal about a group of grown men (Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, and Jeremy Renner) who spend one month a year playing the game of tag. Annabelle Wallis, Isla Fisher, Rashida Jones, and Leslie Bibb also star.

Superfly is a 2018 American action crime film directed by Director X and written by Alex Tse. A remake of the 1972 blaxploitation film Super Fly, it stars Trevor Jackson, Jason Mitchell, Michael K. Williams, Lex Scott Davis, and Jennifer Morrison, and follows a career criminal who tries to get out of the Atlanta drug scene, only to have one bad deal put him in harm’s way.
