Box Office March 6-8, 2015. Chappie premiered in the Number One spot at the box office over the weekend with $13.3 Million. Focus was Second with $10 Million. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel premiered in Third Place with $8.6 Million. Kingsman: The Secret Service was Fourth with $8.3 Million. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was Fifth Place with $7 Million for $148.9 Million so far. Fifty Shades of Grey, McFarland, USA, The Lazarus Effect, The DUFF, and Unfinished Business rounded out the top ten respectively.

The screenplay, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, is based on Blomkamp’s 2004 short film Tetra Vaal.[3] The film stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, Hugh Jackman and Watkin Tudor Jones and Yolandi Visser of the South African hip-hop group Die Antwoord.
