David Yarovesky‘s BrightBurn (2018) movie trailer, produced by James Dunn, stars Jackson A. Dunn, Elizabeth Banks, Meredith Hagner, David Denman, and Matt Jones. BrightBurn‘s plot synopsis: “What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”

This is one of the most intriguing superhero film trailers that I have seen in sometime and that includes the recently released Avengers: Endgame trailer. This trailer does everything right and really nails the growing errie-ness and dread that the parents feel for their adoptive son.

The trailer is well-thought out  and constructed to hit certain beats, beats that are familiar to the Superman cinephile. I loved it. I especially liked the notebook that the kid draws in and how that image is realized in the final moments of the trailer.

How does a child raised in a loving family turn out this bad? I am looking forward to the answer to that.

BrightBurn also stars Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Becky Wahlstrom, Elizabeth Becka, Gregory Alan Williams, Christian Finlayson, Stephen Blackehart, Terence Rosemore, Emmie Hunter, and Gwen Parrish.
