Nikolaj Arcel‘s The Dark Tower (2017) movie trailer and movie posters star Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba, Tom Taylor, Abbey Lee, and Fran Kranz. The Dark Tower‘s plot synopsis: based in the book series by Stephen King, “The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, roams an Old West-like landscape where “the world has moved on” in pursuit of the man in black. Also searching for the fabled Dark Tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.”

More on the storyline of The Dark Tower:

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum.  It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

I liked the Mid-World sequences in this The Dark Tower trailer far more than the Earth scenes. When Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) arrives on Earth, how does he get away with walking around in the streets of New York with two six shooters? An open carry law? The same question revolved around Blade when he walked the streets with a sword sticking up from his back in Blade.

I think the version of Randall Flagg in the lackluster television adaptation of The Stand may have been better than McConaughey’s version. The former version did not emote menace. McConaughey’s version does thus he does not blend into the background as well.

I hope The Dark Tower is far more substantive than this trailer portrays. As is, the plotline to The Dark Tower seems a little thin.

The Dark Tower also stars Katheryn Winnick, Dennis Haysbert, Nicholas Hamilton, Jackie Earle Haley, Alex McGregor, José Zúñiga, and Karl Thaning.
