DVD / Blu-ray News: JACK REACHER, UPSTREAM COLOR, TMNT, JUNGLE BOOK

Tom Cruise Jack Reacher

The Tom Cruise vehicle Jack Reacher hits home video today. Based on the novel One Shot by Lee Childs, the crime thriller opens at top speed, keeping the viewer engaged throughout. The Blu-ray combo pack ($39.99) includes commentary by composer Joe Kraemer, star Tom Cruise, and director Christopher McQuarrie, as well as the making-of documentary You Do Not Mess With Jack Reacher: Combat & Weapons, When the Man Comes Around (another making-of documentary), and The Reacher Phenomenon, a discussion with the author of the Reacher series.

Sony has set a June 24, 2013 release date for The Call on home video. The Blu-ray disc extras include audio commentary by stars Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin along with director Brad Anderson, Michael Eklund‘s audition tape, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, and three featurettes (Emergency Procedure: Making the Film, A Set Tour of the Hive and the Lair, and Inside the Stunts).

The Shane Carruth film Upstream Color releases today on Blu-ray ($29.95). The dreamy, concept film is reminiscent of his previous film, Primer, as well as Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Punch-Drunk Love; the Blu-ray contains three trailers.

Disney has announced the Blu-ray/DVD release of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for August 27, 2013. The release will include Pooh Play Along mode and Disney Intermission, both of which allow young users to pause the disc to engage in many interactive activities. Other extras include five new Pooh shorts (If I Wasn’t So Small, Piglet’s Drawings, The Expedition, Geniuses, and The Honey Song), A Day for Eeyore, The Story Behind the Masterpiece, and a music video from Carly Simon. The MSRP for the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is $36.99 and $26.99 for the DVD.

Warner Bros. releases Superman: Unbound today on home video ($24.98). Extras include trailers, Superman: the Animated Series, excerpts from the graphic novel Superman: Braniac, Kandor: History of the Bottle City, Braniac: Technology and Terror, and commentary with producer/director James Tucker, screenwriter Bob Goodman, and DC Entertainment creative director Mark Carlin.

Shout! Factory has set a June 18, 2013 release for The Jungle Book: the Adventures of Mowgli – Complete Collection. The 1989 Japanese television series will be available on DVD only and include all 52 episodes.

Nickelodeon will release the animated series Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles: Enter Shredder on DVD only on July 9, 2013 with a MSRP of $14.99.
