It’s always a delight to see Aardman Animations return with an all-new adventure, especially when it comes directly from Oscar-winning director Nick Park. This caveman story is no different. What comes as a surprise is the unique concept of the Stone Age against the Bronze Age. It’s a quirky comedy where cavemen fight to save their home from tyrannical gladiators lead by a Julius Caesar-type ruler. On top of incorporating the charming humour that made audiences fall in love with the Aardman brand, the film also offers some impressive animation. The stand out moments from the trailer are the armoured mammoths and the moment Dug and his friends get carried into the large kingdom of Lord Nooth. Don’t be surprised if this ends up in some people’s lists of favourite animated films of 2018.
